With the anticipated move of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh from Oakland to Lawrenceville, significant redevelopment is also expected to occur. Because of this, the area is expected to see a revitalization over the next few years.
With this growth in mind, the Lawrenceville Corporation spearheaded a study to improve the traffic, streetscape, parking and pedestrian conditions in the area. Through a collaborative community involvement process, a phased program of desired improvements to be made over the next few years was developed. From that program, a prioritized list of the improvements evolved. In addition to creating community and action involvement plans and analyzing current and future parking conditions, Trans Associates and its team of sub-consultants analyzed traffic, transit operations and streetscape options. Significant intersection and traffic signal improvements were identified to enhance pedestrian, bicycle, transit and vehicle movements at gateway intersections to Lawrenceville.
