1. Senior Roadway Design Engineer

Trans Associates Engineering Consultants, Inc. has an immediate opening for a Senior Roadway Design Engineer with a P.E. license and 5-10 years of experience in roadway design. This role offers a tremendous opportunity to contribute to impactful projects, including notable local private projects like Hazelwood Green, UPMC Presbyterian Bed Tower, and Bakery Square, as well as public design work for PennDOT and local municipalities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform geometric roadway design using MicroStation and prepare contract documents (PS&E) in accordance with state and local agency requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to CAD Designers/Drafters working on the same project.
  • Coordinate drainage design activities for roadway projects.
  • Conduct field investigations and assessments of project sites.
  • Prepare or oversee the development of plans, cost estimates, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Review documents and design work to ensure compliance with PennDOT plans and specifications.
  • Potentially take on Deputy Project Manager or Project Manager responsibilities, based on experience.
  • Attend project meetings as needed.

Position Requirements:

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering with coursework in highway engineering, hydrology, and hydraulics.
  • Licensed P.E. in Pennsylvania or the ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months.
  • Proficiency in Bentley MicroStation.
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Knowledge of PennDOT methods and procedures for roadway and drainage design is preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Familiarity with PennDOT procedures, policies, and standards.

2. Civil Engineer, E.I.T.

Trans Associates is on the lookout for an aspiring Highway/Roadway Civil Engineer, freshly graduated or with up to 5 years of experience, eager to make their mark in the world of transportation planning, traffic engineering, and design. As a distinguished transportation engineering firm, we take pride in our contributions to transportation infrastructure, serving prestigious clients across the Pittsburgh area, including top-tier institutions, developers, local municipalities, and PennDOT.

  • Engage in geometric roadway design using MicroStation
  •  Collaborate within a dynamic design team, contributing to the design of projects varying in scope and complexity.
  •  Craft task deliverables with a keen eye for detail, ensuring they are comprehensive and ready for review.
  •  Conduct field investigations and site assessments, laying the groundwork for successful project outcomes.
  •  Support the preparation and submission of specifications and permits
  • Assist in developing preliminary project cost estimates

Who We’re Looking For:

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering degree and E.I.T. or ability to obtain certification within 12 months
  • PE license a plus
  • A foundational understanding of applicable codes and design standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • A positive, eager-to-learn attitude with the ability to take direction and grow from feedback.
  • Familiarity with PennDOT methods and procedures for roadway design is preferred.
  • Some experience with CAD or MicroStation.

3. Traffic Engineer (Entry Level and/or Internship)

We are seeking an entry level traffic engineer for our Pittsburgh, PA office. The candidate for this position must live within commuting distance to our Pittsburgh office, 4955 Steubenville Pike, Pittsburgh, PA. 

This is an opportunity to develop real world experience in a work environment filled with experienced transportation engineers.

A Qualified Traffic Engineer at Trans Associates will:

  • Assist with field data collection efforts.
  • Perform data reduction and analysis.
  • Assist with report graphics.
  • Assist with checking calculations, reports and drawings for accuracy.
  • Assist with preparation of project reports, plans and technical documents.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines including design, architectural and legal team members.
  • Assist with preparation of materials for community meetings or public hearings.

Position requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Coursework in traffic engineering.
  • Ability to run traffic analysis models and utilize CAD design software under guidance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
  • Ability to work independently and with others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
